Xantphos (4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9-dimethylxanthene) is the privileged wide bite-angle (≈108°) bidentate phosphine ligand developed by van Leeuwen. It is the industry standard for rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation of terminal olefins and is also widely used in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.

Applications

  • Rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation of olefins
  • Palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling
  • Buchwald-Hartwig amination (Pd)
  • Hydrocyanation and allylic alkylation
